Food Review: MAReSOL Restaurant | V&A Waterfront

If a relaxed atmosphere, good service and tasty Portuguese cuisine is what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with MAReSOL Restaurant in the V&A Waterfront. I’ve been eyeing this Cape Town restaurant with a view for a while, and when my best friend asked for suggestions, I booked us a table.

Good service

I got a phone call from a MAReSOL staff member the morning of, to confirm our booking. Just as well, as this gave me the chance to change the time from 11:00 (for breakfast) to 12:00 (for lunch). We received a warm welcome at the door and our waiter was friendly, attentive, and informative.

Stunning seafood

There’s no lack of variety here – starters from soup to chicken livers, mains from seafood to steak, and dessert from rice pudding to cheesecake – you can take your pick. We opted for the Cataplana for two, a “fragrant combination of prawns, mussels, catch of the day, chorizo, calamari and rice”, served in a beautiful copper dish. This was R350 (about $25) and could easily serve four people. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavour combinations just worked. Sides of coleslaw and chips were a bonus. Drink up

MAReSOL Restaurant has an extensive wine list and tasty cocktails to choose from. I opted for a thyme and lemon gin and tonic while my bestie tried the mint and strawberry G&T, for R45 (about $3) each. Both delicious.

Views for days

Stunning views were the cherry on the cake. I mean, just look at this!

Needless to say, I highly recommend MAReSOL Restaurant in Cape Town.
